Main Street Skowhegan is seeking an energetic, highly relational and entrepreneurial professional to serve as our Director of Business Engagement & Workforce Pathways. This role sits at the intersection of business growth, entrepreneurship, and workforce opportunity in rural Maine. Through this work, the Director will play an important role in strengthening the regional economy by supporting entrepreneurs, helping businesses grow, and connecting regional residents to employment opportunities.
The position will also help advance innovative initiatives that position central Maine as a hub for outdoor recreation, food-based entrepreneurship, and small business development. Candidates with experience as entrepreneurs, small business owners, or professionals who work closely with the business community are strongly encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities Business Engagement & Employer Outreach: Build and maintain strong relationships with businesses through regular outreach and in-person engagement. Meet with business owners and industry leaders to understand their needs, identify challenges, and connect them to resources and opportunities. Convene industry conversations, business roundtables, and networking opportunities that strengthen collaboration across the regional business community. Serve as a connector between businesses and partners providing technical assistance, financing, and workforce resources. The ideal candidate will bring a high level of initiative and energy, along with strong relationship-building skills, entrepreneurial thinking, and community engagement experience. Preferred qualifications include: Experience in economic development, entrepreneurship, small business support, workforce development, or a related field Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and relationships across diverse stakeholders Experience working with entrepreneurs, small businesses, or industry partners Interest in rural economic development and community revitalization Ability to manage multiple projects and partnerships simultaneously Strong organizational and facilitation skills Familiarity with Maine’s outdoor recreation and/or food and agriculture sectors is a plus Candidates with experience as entrepreneurs, small business owners, or professionals working closely with the business community are strongly encouraged to apply.
