FINANCIAL
ASSISTANCE FOR BUSINESSES:
A number of
financial incentives are available to assist healthy expansion-minded
firms in the mid-Maine region through federal, state, and local
initiatives. Emphasis is placed on production-oriented, permanent
jobs being created or retained.
Financing
is generally for long-term, fixed assets, although working capital
loans can be facilitated under some programs. Grants are also
available to individuals and firms for the development of new,
high technology products or services. Below are some organizations
that can assist in various ways with financial assistance:
FAME
—The Finance Authority of Maine
Opportunity
for Maine business means opportunity for Maine people. Our mission
at FAME is to help businesses like yours to grow, expand and succeed,
creating new employment opportunities that will benefit the people
and communities of Maine.
The Finance
Authority of Maine (FAME) was established by the Maine Legislature
in 1983. Operating as an independent State agency, they work closely
with the financial, economic development and business communities
in Maine to provide financing solutions for Maine companies of
all sizes and at all stages, from entrepre-neurial start-ups to
established firms.
FAME’s wide
range of business financing programs include:

and tax-exempt bond financing programs
- Early-stage,
patient capital programs

KENNEBEC
VALLEY COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS
The
Kennebec Valley Council of Governments (KVCOG) supports and expands
the capabilities of local governments to provide economic development
opportunities. KVCOG serves 62 municipalities in Kennebec, Somerset
and Waldo counties. It is a regional, voluntary membership organization
governed by the General Assembly of 110 members and an Executive
Committee of nineteen members. Established June 1, 1967, as the
North Kennebec Regional Planning Commission, this organization
was re-established July 1, 1994, as the Kennebec Valley Council
of Governments to expand the boundary and services of the Economic
Development District into the southern half of Kennebec County.

CENTRAL
MAINE GROWTH COUNCIL
The Central
Maine Growth Council is a public-private partnership dedicated
to a collaborative economic development effort for the Waterville,
Winslow, Oakland and Fairfield region. The organization was founded
in 2001, is funded by the four municipalities and the private
sector, and is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors, which
includes the manager of each community and eight private sector
members.
The Growth
Council's mission is to foster a robust regional economy fueled
by a genuine collaboration among governments, businesses and residents,
resulting in a highly desirable multi-town community in which
to live, work and raise a family.
The Growth
Council's role in the region:
1. Assist
our businesses and communities in development efforts
2. Gather and provide economic information, such as real estate
and demographics
3. Coordinate economic development efforts in the region
4. Work with the public and private sectors to encourage collaboration
5. Educate the public about the economy and economic development
activities
6. Advocate for issues that impact our business community
